Manu Sharma, the Vice President and General Manager of Nothing India, has announced his resignation. Sharma, who has been instrumental in establishing and growing the London-based smartphone startup's presence in India since February 2021, will leave the company at the end of January 2024.
Sharma's journey in Nothing
During his tenure, Sharma's leadership was pivotal in developing Nothing's strategy and business in India. He was responsible for forming key partnerships, recruiting talent, and implementing efficient processes.
The company said that his efforts have been crucial in building the foundation of the Nothing brand in India from the ground up. Before joining Nothing, Sharma had over two decades of experience with industry giants like Samsung Electronics and HP.
Why is Sharma leaving Nothing?
Sharma cited personal reasons for his departure. Despite his exit, he expressed confidence in the company's future, highlighting Nothing India's strong product lineup for 2024 and its capable team. Sharma's decision came after intensive deliberation, and he shared his excitement for the new adventures that await him.
"As we ring in the year 2024 very soon, I am excited to share that I have decided to move on from Nothing. The last 3 years have been very eventful and memorable. This has been the most fortunate & incredible time of my life to build the foundation of the Nothing brand in India from ground zero. The decision to move on came after intensive deliberation due to personal reasons. Nothing India is in an incredibly strong position, has a very robust pipeline of products in 2024 and with a very capable team," Sharma wrote in a LinkedIn post.
Nothing's upcoming phone
Recently, Nothing announced a price cut for its Nothing Phone (2) in India and is preparing for an event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) on February 27th next year. Expectations are high for the brand, especially regarding the anticipated reveal of the Nothing Phone (3).
Sharma's departure comes at a time when the smartphone market in India is experiencing dynamic changes. Despite overall market stagnation, brands like Apple have seen significant growth. Nothing, competing with giants like Apple, Samsung, and OnePlus, has managed to carve out a niche for itself, especially with its partnership with Flipkart in India.
